About

About

It’s not a common word if you don’t work in the industry, and chances are you’re standing on it but don’t even realise. Screed is a thin layer of cement and sand covering a concrete floor. For areas where more coarse and hard-wearing surfaces are required, suitable aggregates can be added prior to installation. It’s possible to complete the process with a decorative finish for domestic and commercial properties, but industrial warehouses tend to leave their flooring unembellished due to the inevitable wear and tear.

Screedy Does It Ltd provides floor screeding and liquid screeding facilities for our clients. Whether you’re planning a modern industrial look for your home, or building a new commercial premises, we’ll install the right one for you.

Prior to the commencement of works, the existing surfaces will be thoroughly cleaned and swept by our screeders, ensuring they’re as smooth as possible before the screeding takes place.

There are three different types of floor screeding – bonded, unbonded and floating.

Bonded

By adding the screeding mixture directly onto the existing sub-base, a definite bonding effect can be achieved.

Unbonded

In this case the screed is separated from the sub-base by a thick membrane.

Floating

Similar to unbonded, the screed is placed on top of insulation boards away from the sub-base.

The Process

Besides the standard sand and cement form of floor screeding, Screedy Does It also installs traditional fibre screed for clients. Here, polypropylene fibres are included in the original mix in order to prevent cracking and increase the overall durability of the new surface.

Firstly the floor is separated by dividers as the screed is spread in sections.

Once spread out, the mixture is compacted with a straight edged board and monitored to ensure it remains level as our plasterers work their way along the floor. It’s a tricky process but our staff are highly skilled at what they do. The process is repeated for each section until the floor is complete. Then the dividers are removed and the gaps filled in the same way. Any imperfections can be dealt with immediately as they’ll be easily spotted at this stage.
